Party Walls
Party walls are shared walls, separating buildings that belong to different owners. It is important that if you are carrying out works to a party wall you comply with the Party Wall Act 1996.
Under the Act you are legally obliged to inform all owners of your intention to carry out work. Shaw & Company can assist with issuing notices and producing party wall awards, which you will need in order to carry out the necessary work.
Party Wall Awards
A party wall award is a set of guidelines detailing how the works to the party wall will be carried out and requires photographic evidence of the current condition and drawings detailing the proposed works. It is produced by the two party wall surveyors acting on behalf of the owners.
The award will also include details of permitted working hours, details of the contractor’s liability insurance and a time limit for the commencement of works.
