FAQs
When will I need to employ the services of a surveyor?
You may require a firm of surveyors to assist with the following:
- To specify and coordinate any major works taking place on your building or estate such as external redecoration, accessway resurfacing or replacing the roof.
Before undertaking any major works on your property you will need to ensure that a thorough specification has been prepared, any necessary notices have been served and all procedures are correctly followed. A surveyor should then be appointed to manage the project
- To revalue your block for insurance purposes.
Most insurance companies recommend that all buildings are revalued every three to five years to ensure sufficient cover in the event of a claim. Directors of Resident Management Companies could be seen by other leaseholders as being responsible for not arranging sufficient insurance which in itself could lead to formal action being taken.
- Enfranchisement
If you want to buy the freehold reversionary interest of your building and you are unsure where to start, Shaw & Company can take you through the process.
How much will it cost?
Fees will vary depending on the service required. This may be a fixed fee or a percentage of the total contract price. The fee will always be discussed with the client before any work commences.
What professional or trade bodies are you a member of?
Shaw & Company are members of and regulated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
